Two questions that are asked alot are, "What size of rug for the dining room is needed?" and, "What size rug fits under the table?"
If your rug is going to be off to the side, you are going to need it to be smaller because in normal the table is the central focus in the room.
If the rug is going underneath the table, make sure that it's a least a foot larger in dimensions than the table. Properly town the table when you put it on the rug.
Tips to make the dining room area rug last longer.
Put a rug pad underneath. The weight of the table and chairs will put much more wear on the rug if no pad is there.
Consider getting disks or pads to put underneath the feet of the chairs. Some chairs have feet that put alot of stress into floor covering and rugs.
The rug pile is compacted, take a very soft brush and a spray bottle of water and gradually use the blend of these to get the pile back into it's permissible shape.
You might consider not leaving the chairs on the rug or at least keen them nearby from time to time to prevent the pile from being squished.
Be sure to take off the rug from under the table for permissible cleaning and vacuuming. It's best to vacuum a rug both on top and bottom so the table will have to be moved sometimes.
